MDF Material Testing - With Sam Berry
We wanted to design a case which was interesting and fun to interact with. As our clients were interested in us working with MDF, we played around on the laser cutter with different patterns to make the material flexible. We managed to find some templates online to initially start off using, however adapted these slightly for own own experiments.
Marketing concept: Visual indentity and Social Media
Both the client and our team have identified that packaging and also advertising/social media is needed/lacking in the brand. Through meetings with other groups, we have noticed that most do not want to target social media. We however that it is an important aspect and it is what the client needs to strengthen their brand identity.
Already we have many ideas on directions we could go in with packaging. With the whole marketing and advertising aspect, we did not have a clear or solid idea or plan of what we were going to deliver.
At the meeting with the client we had a discussion around this aspect and what they want.
- we picked up that they were interested in making more effort and be more consistent with posting on their facebook page.
- they mentioned twitter- we think that twitter is good for questions. However, it is not as popular within NZ and not a good platform for selling a product.
- marketing around reglazing service ( reminding people to update their prescription)
- advertising at stores (local)
- old methods of advertising (word of mouth)
From this, we have done more market research to get a direction in this concept.
We started thinking about visuals (photographs) that can tie/relate to the brand. We agree that Mr foureyes have a quirkiness about them however not evidently shown on their website. Jack mentioned their glasses on people in a natural environment (they only have studio photos on their website) which led us to Humans of New York. I then found Gordon Graham (eyewear brand) that shoot each collection in a different location (cafe, pizza parlour, park, etc.)

These images focus on the glasses yet are also selling a lifestyle. Often brands on instagram subtly sell the item to the audience by using images that show a lifestyle, the essence and value of the brand.
we looked into brands that do this on instagram:

Buy-one-give-one
We have found other companies who also have buy one give one /charitable aspects to their brand.
WARBY PARKER
OSCAR WYLEE
Home try ons
We found that is quite common for eyewear companies to offer home try-ons. Here's a few we found:
WARBY PARKER
a scrolling interactive web page showing steps on how it works
FETCH EYEWEAR
an illustrated process of the service
OSCAR WYLEE
Mr Foureyes Website finally live!!
Mr Foureyes' website is finally live and we have taken some time to look over the website
Firstly we see that they have shown off their reglaze service as before it was quite hidden on their kiwioptical website
we are not sure that the text above is needed, if so it could be refined.
we have also found that the reglaze image above and the clean clinical studio photos are contradicting their image. the wood in the image is more rustic and crafty whereas the cool tone images look very clinical and minimal
we also think the drop shadow does not suit there image. we think they could achieve a cleaner and minimal look without it
more photos of the glasses are now available as well as photos on models.
the faq page has alot of info on it and can be daunting for someone to read through for the answer they want.

Packaging
Packaging:
Mr. Foureyes requires three types of packaging for their products that are innovative, practical and appropriate for the targeted user. Something more personal to enhance customer experience with the brand.
